Desperate Hours by D K Gaston

After a six year absence, Joe Hooks and Kool-Aid are back in another exciting adventure.

The story picks up more than a year after the events of Lost Hours. It is the summer of 2006. Joe is visited by a man he’d hoped never to see again, Grady, a former mob enforcer currently working for a corrupt city councilman, Lucius Meriwether. Grady questions him about the whereabouts of Kool-Aid. When Joe doesn’t have an answer for him, the enforcer departs, leaving Joe with a lot of questions of his own. Later, he is contacted by Shanna, a teen he helped escape the clutches of a pimp. She begs him to come pick her up. He does, only to find her injured, telling him of a knife wielding killer.

In the meantime, Kool-Aid is hired to protect Minnie, another teenager Joe helped from the same pimp. She spins a tale of being chased by street thugs. However, when two professional goons come after the teen, her story begins to fall apart. Kool-Aid must decide whether to continuing helping her or cut Minnie loose.

While Joe protects Shanna from being pulled into a murder investigation (where she's the prime suspect); Kool-Aid also has his hands full keeping Minnie out of harm's way.

One or both girls' might be keeping secrets from their protectors that could place all their lives in mortal danger.
